Employers Should Carry on (Legally) in the Wake of Anti-DEI Directives

Kirsten Scheurer Branigan was a signatory to an article entitled, “A Call to Action: Stay Calm and Carry On (Legally) in the Wake of Anti-DEI Directives” that was drafted by Careen Ulrich Stacy (CEO of Diversity Lab), Sandra Yamate (CEO of the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession), and Leslie Davis (CEO of NAMWOLF) and published on June 30, 2023 on Law.com. The article provides guidance and clarity for public and private organizations with DEI efforts in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to end race-conscious affirmative action in college admissions. KSBranigan Law will be hosting a complimentary Lunch and Learn Program on October 17, 2023, entitled, “Impact on DEI in the Wake of the SCOTUS Affirmative Action Ruling.” This program will include a discussion about the United States Supreme Court decisions on two important cases that could have broad implications for employers. One related to affirmative action and DEI efforts, and the other related to religious accommodations.

Ms. Branigan is a recognized leader and a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion in the legal profession and heightened awareness of attorney mental health and substance use awareness.

In 2023, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers Law School-Newark in the International Human Rights Clinic where she helped launch a first-of-its-kind study that will broadly focus on solutions to the advancement and retention challenges faced by women in the New Jersey legal profession. She previously led a revitalization of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, serving as its President continues to sit on its Board. In 2021, she was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Lawyers Assistance Program. In July 2023, she was reappointed to serve a three-year term.

Ms. Branigan speaks and write on the importance of DEI, including in the legal profession.
