COVID-19: DCR – 5 Things You Should Know about Civil Rights and COVID-19 and Other Guidance

On May 14, 2020, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights released guidance entitled “5 Things You Should Know About Civil Rights and COVID-19.” The DCR reiterates protections under the NJ Law Against Discrimination and NJ Family Leave Act in connection with the COVID-19 crisis of which employers and employees should be aware.

Updated on April 16, 2020, the DCR released other guidance on the recent developments of COVID-19 entitled Civil Rights and COVID-19: Frequently Asked Questions. The DCR reiterates to the public that COVID-19 does not discriminate – it infects people of all races, national origins, religions and other protected categories. The guidance reviews a number of questions regarding workplace protections given COVID-19 pandemic and related issues concerning employment, housing and places of public accommodation.
