Women in the Legal Profession: The Quest to Overcome Barriers to Advancement Continues – Commerce Magazine

Kirsten Scheurer Branigan and Natalie M. Hiott-Levine co-authored an article entitled Women in the Legal Profession: The Quest to Overcome Barriers to Advancement Continues, discussing the fact that, while women have made substantial inroads in the legal profession over the past fifty years, there are still barriers to equality in the profession. While women are estimated to comprise half of all law school graduates, these numbers are not reflected in judicial appointments and partnership in law firms. The article raises obstacles that women in law face, including the glass ceiling and maternal wall. The authors suggest work life balance options as being key for retention and advancement for women 8n the law. The article was published in the Summer 2006 issue of Commerce Magazine.
