Wage & Hour Audits

To comply with the Fair Labor Standards, Act, it is critical that employees are properly classified as exempt or non-exempt, and that employees who have a right to receive overtime for hours worked over 40 are provided the same. Further, employers need to assess and evaluate whether they have classified employees correctly as employees and /or independent contractors.

This session is useful for employers and HR personnel who need to assess their workforce and gain an understanding as to whether pay practices are compliant.

  • Determining when to conduct a wage and hour audit
  • Deciding who will be involved in the audit
  • Determining the scope of the audit
  • Review job descriptions
  • Review employees who are classified as exempt
  • Interviewing management and/or employees
  • Reviewing timekeeping and pay records and policies
  • Reviewing independent contractor status
  • Analyzing the results
  • Reclassifying employees
