Termination & Discipline Best Practices

This Training is a tool to assist employers and managers in navigating various issues that arise when it becomes necessary to discipline, demote, or terminate an employee. The target audience includes all levels of leadership, such as supervisors, managers, and those who make significant decisions but may not supervise employees. Personnel in human resources, compliance, and legal roles may also benefit from this Training.

  • Establishing company policies, rules and performance expectations
  • Documenting poor performance and employee misconduct
  • The importance of providing employees with feedback
  • Making sure that disciplinary and termination decisions are not based on protected class status or protected activity
  • Ensuring that employees are treated fairly and consistently with company policy
  • Determining what level of discipline to impose
  • Meeting with employees to explain disciplinary decisions
  • Exit interviews
  • Maintaining and retaining disciplinary records
