In the United States federal, state and local laws not only prohibit discrimination and harassment based on religion but also may require employers to provide religious accommodations in the form of schedule changes. Schedule changes, time off, modification to dress and grooming practices, prayer spaces and job reassignments unless doing so would create an undue hardship. In 2023, the US Supreme Court in Groff v. DeJoy clarified what constitutes an “undue hardship” in the Title VII religious accommodation context. This session will address how employees should approach requests for religious accommodation and apply this new standard.
