National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Past President, Jin Y. Hwang, moderated the panel, “Byte-Sized Diversity: AI Solutions for Legal Hurdles and Inclusive Features,” at the NAPABA 2024 Convention in Seattle, Washington on November 9, 2024. This year’s Convention had over 3,200 attorneys registered to attend. Panelists included Michael J. Hui, Of Counsel, Gunderson Dettmer; Alice Wang, Shareholder, Littler Mendelsohn; and Delphina Yuen, General Counsel, Outschool. The program addressed the following topics:
- what does and doesn’t constitute AI;
- how companies can capitalize on AI to increase equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace as well as practical tips and strategies to consider when implementing AI to foster a more inclusive workplace;
- what organizations can learn from the current landscape to navigate legal repercussions;
- how AI technologies can complement and strengthen existing DEIBA efforts, mitigating potential backlash and driving sustainable progress towards a more diverse and equitable workplace; and
- best practices and recommendations for organizations interested in implementing AI to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace.
