EXPERIENCE

Jin Hwang is an attorney with approximately twenty years of experience as an advisor, negotiator, and strategist with global companies such as Verizon and France Télécom (now Orange). She is a stalwart champion of equity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Jin served as Associate General Counsel with Verizon Communications Inc., a Fortune 25 and Dow 30 company, supporting multiple business units. Jin led a legal team that negotiated multi-million-dollar commercial agreements with Fortune 500 companies for their technology needs. In addition, Jin identified and resolved potential compliance, antitrust, labor and employment, and other issues arising from these agreements and corporate customer relationships. Jin was recognized by senior leadership, her peers, and teams for collaboratively developing solutions with her clients. Before that, Jin served as in-house counsel for Verizon Wireless handling a broad array of fields, including marketing, sales, contract negotiations, corporate communications, and managing litigation such as consumer, commercial, bankruptcy, and eminent domain. She also was primary Verizon Wireless Northeast Area counsel on many strategic projects, including working closely with all business groups to integrate various assets after Verizon Wireless’ multi-billion and multi-million-dollar acquisitions. While with Verizon, Jin was an inaugural Steering Committee member of the Verizon Public Policy, Law & Security Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Jin began her legal career with France Télécom where she worked on a panoply of legal areas, including in French with company executives in France to negotiate license agreements authorizing use of the company’s name, trademark, and products in The Bourne Identity and The Truth About Charlie films.

In 2021, Jin founded Jinvesting Consulting LLC, which provides financial education; equity, inclusion, access, and belonging consulting; and executive coaching services.

Jin has been strongly committed to equity, inclusion, access, and belonging throughout her career and serves in several leadership roles. For example, as a Commissioner with the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Women in the Profession, Jin serves as co-chair of the Grit and Growth Mindset Committee and Native American Women Attorneys Study. During her tenure, the Gritty Teams report was published in April 2023 with a successful webinar and toolkit launch; Jin is also co-leading key initiatives to commemorate the Grit and Growth Mindset Project’s tenth anniversary. Through a close collaboration with the National Native American Bar Association, Jin co-led all aspects from the study’s inception to the publication of a groundbreaking report, “Excluded and Alone: Examining the Experiences of Native American Women in the Law and a Path Towards Equity,” to amplify Native American women attorneys’ voices.

In addition, Jin is the inaugural National Asian Pacific American Bar Association representative on the ABA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council and served as the Advisory Council’s Policy Innovation & Resolution Incubator Subcommittee chair and Steering Committee member. In those roles, Jin successfully shepherded a policy resolution urging ABA members to devote at least 20 hours annually to advance or promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. Jin also serves in leadership roles with The Financial Literacy Project, a multi-year ABA TIPS and Thomson Reuters’ public service project creating financial education videos for all, especially underserved and underrepresented communities.

Jin was privileged to serve as president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association in 2015-2016 and collaborated closely on advocacy and programs with other national affinity bar associations and the ABA.
