PART 1: EMPLOYMENT LAW 101: UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS
This Training is a tool to assist employers and managers in navigating a variety of issues that arise throughout the employment relationship, from recruiting and hiring to discipline and termination. The target audience includes all levels of leadership, such as supervisors, managers, and those who make significant decisions but may not supervise employees. Personnel in human resources, compliance, and legal roles may also benefit from this Training.
Employers today are faced with frequently changing and increasingly complex laws, rules, and regulations. Compliance is key for employers to minimize the risk of liability and provide safe and productive workplaces where employees can thrive and maximize their contributions. A well-trained workforce that follows compliance guidelines is central to productivity, efficiency, morale, trust, and performance.

Understanding key federal, state, and local employment laws
Monitoring the workplace and enforcing workplace policies
Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring
Applications and background checks
Salary inquiry bans
Equal pay compliance
Handling harassment/discrimination complaints
Avoiding retaliation, and addressing retaliation concerns
Medical, family, and sick leaves
Reasonable accommodations, medical exams, tests, inquiries (including COVID-19, disabilities, religious, and service or assistance animals)
Drug use and testing, cannabis (marijuana)
Whistleblower concerns
Safety, health, and worker injuries
Overtime and misclassification issues

This Training can be tailored to suit the employer’s needs and is conducted live (on site or virtually). It runs typically 2-3 hours, but it can be enhanced (or narrowed) as needed. KSB Law also conducts Employment Audits and assists with Employment Handbooks/Policies.
